👹Is Pitocin the "bad guy" in hospital births?

Published 10 months ago • 2 min read

Hey Reader,

We've got to talk about Pitocin. You know, probably the second most talked about drug used in labor and delivery. The only other drug more popular than this one is the epidural, understandably.

If you aren't familiar with Pitocin yet, let me give you a quick run down so that you kind of know where I'm coming from in this conversation:

  • Pitocin is used to cause more frequent, regular, or stronger contractions.
  • It's often used for inductions or to augment labor that has already begun.
  • Many women claim that Pitocin made their labor harder and possibly more traumatic

...but there is a whole lot more to talk about than that.

I made a simple reel over on instagram about an experience that I had with Pitocin as a brand new labor and delivery nurse almost 10 years ago and it lit up the comment section with stories of mothers who feel victimized by Pitocin.

Click here to see what I'm talking about.

But the thing is, could one drug really be the villain in all of these mama's stories? Is it really that bad?

and the bigger question...

How are you supposed to know if you need it during your labor and birth?

I talk about it all in the latest podcast episode on The Labor Room- Episode 6: Is Pitocin The "Bad Buy" In Hospital Births?. Come check it out.
